Job summary

Thurrock Council in Grays is seeking a Highway Officer to join the Highways Team. You will assist with investigation, design, planning, programming and implementation of schemes within the Transport and Highways Maintenance and Delivery Programme, helping to modernise the network.

Working within a dedicated team, you will develop expertise with asset management systems, contribute to service improvements, and benefit from flexible and hybrid working, generous leave and wellbeing support.

Qualifications

• Experience in highways or street lighting environments.
• Ability to learn and use specialist software.
• Knowledge of asset management systems is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist with investigation, design, planning, programming and implementation of schemes within the Transport and Highways Maintenance and Delivery Programme.
• Support the Highways Team in delivering the modernisation agenda for network management.
• Contribute to the ongoing management and improvement of highways and street lighting engineering.

Job description

We are seeking an exceptional, engaging & committed individual to join us as Highways Officer. This role is a varied and exciting opportunity to work within a fast-evolving Highway Team and play a pivotal role in the management of the road network.

The successful candidate will be at the forefront of helping to maintain the Highway function and help the broader Highways Team. Working within a team of dedicated, skilled professionals you will have a key role in assisting the Highways Team in delivering the modernisation agenda for the network management function.

As a Highway Officer you will assist with the investigation, design, planning programming and implementation of schemes within the Transport and Highways Maintenance and Delivery Programme., Stuart Thacker - Principal Engineer | Highway Maintenance

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• The aptitude to work on your own initiative.
• The aptitude to learn / use specialist work related software programmes.
• Knowledge of Mayrise, Symology Aurora, MyCity, IMTRAC, PLANet or similar asset management systems.
• Experience within a Street Lighting or Highways environment
• A willingness to learn about all aspects of highways and street lighting engineering associated with a highway authority.
