Job summary

Hampshire County Council is recruiting a Highway Engineer to support the Highways team in delivering the highways maintenance service in Hampshire. You will work under the Principal Engineer to help manage a team of professionals and ensure operations comply with policies and procedures.

The role involves liaising with elected Members, districts, parishes and the public, plus collaboration with partners to improve services.

Qualifications

• Experience in highway maintenance practices and legislation.
• Understanding of CDM and traffic management.
• Strong communication, written and verbal, and IT skills.
• Willingness to travel within Hampshire; out-of-hours work as required.

Responsibilities

• Assist Principal Engineers and the Highway Management Team in delivering highway maintenance and enforcement operations.
• Communicate with elected Members, districts/parishes, and the public on highway issues.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to provide a joined-up service for customers and identify service improvements.
• Provide training and mentoring for junior staff.
