Job summary

Matchtech, on behalf of our client, is seeking a Team Leader to support highway maintenance schemes and related infrastructure through a contract opportunity. The role will provide technical leadership, oversee service delivery and promote high standards of health, safety, environmental performance and customer service.

The role will provide technical leadership, oversee service delivery and promote high standards of health, safety, environmental performance and customer service across the highways sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and resolve complex technical issues relating to highway maintenance schemes using specialist knowledge and sound judgement.
• Provide professional advice on scheme planning, design and compliance with relevant highway standards and regulations.
• Represent the service at project boards, make operational decisions and negotiate with contractors to achieve effective outcomes.
• Supervise, mentor and train colleagues, while planning workloads and supporting professional development.
• Conduct site inspections to ensure that works comply with approved designs, health and safety requirements and environmental regulations.
• Prepare reports, maintain accurate records and respond promptly to internal and external enquiries, including requests received through FixMyStreet and Member portals.
• Develop routine highway maintenance programmes for publication to Members and the public.
• Work with contract management colleagues to ensure the procurement of services through the highways maintenance contract complies with its terms and conditions.

Job Requirements

• Experience in highway maintenance, highways engineering or a related infrastructure environment.
• Strong understanding of highway maintenance practices, scheme delivery and relevant technical standards.
• Ability to assess complex technical issues and make sound, well-informed decisions.
• Knowledge of health and safety, environmental compliance and statutory requirements within highway works.
• Experience of supervising, mentoring or supporting the development of colleagues.
• Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, including liaison with contractors, Members and the public.
• Excellent report writing, record-keeping and organisational abilities.
• Understanding of highways contracts, procurement processes and contract terms and conditions.
