Job summary

Hampshire County Council is recruiting an Assistant Highway Engineer to join Hampshire Highways. The role involves technical support for highway maintenance, inspections, and coordinating works orders to keep roads safe and well maintained.

The successful candidate will have highways experience, a valid driver's licence, and be prepared to travel across Hampshire. An opportunity to undertake a Level 3 Civil Engineering apprenticeship is available as part of development.

Qualifications

• Highways-related experience and practical knowledge in maintenance and inspections.
• Strong customer care and communication skills are essential.
• Willingness to travel and work out of hours when required.
• Ongoing training through the Civil Engineering apprenticeship is available.

Responsibilities

• Assist Highway Engineers with technical support and inspections.
• Raise works orders and coordinate with contractors and stakeholders.
• Conduct site audits and contribute to problem-solving for highway issues.
• Support training and mentoring of junior staff where applicable.
