Job summary

Aspire People are recruiting an enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) for a two-form entry primary school in Liverpool. This full-time position starts January 2026 and involves delivering targeted phonics and literacy interventions to Key Stage 1 pupils, helping them progress in reading and writing.

You will support planning, assessment and monitoring with the class teacher and SENDCo, create engaging learning environments, and provide regular feedback to colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Qualified HLTA status or experienced Level 3 TA with intervention background.
  • Excellent knowledge of phonics with programmes such as Read Write Inc.
  • Experience delivering interventions for Key Stage 1 pupils.
  • Ability to lead small group sessions independently and use initiative.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality phonics and literacy interventions to small groups of Key Stage 1 pupils.
  • Lead structured intervention sessions for children of mixed abilities, targeting learning gaps.
  • Support teachers with planning, assessment and monitoring pupil progress.
  • Create engaging, inclusive learning environments that help pupils thrive.
  • Work with class teachers and the SENDCo to tailor interventions to pupil needs.
  • Provide regular feedback to staff and pupils to support development.
  • Promote positive behaviour and a love of learning throughout the school.

Full-Time Opportunities Available

Aspire People are currently recruiting passionate and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) and experienced Level 3 Teaching Assistants for exciting opportunities across Liverpool, with roles available throughout the Liverpool area.

We are currently working with a large, welcoming two-form entry primary school in Liverpool that is looking to appoint a confident and experienced HLTA on a full-time basis from January 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive and inclusive school community that is committed to helping every child thrive.

As part of the Key Stage 1 team, you will play a vital role in delivering targeted phonics and literacy interventions, helping pupils build confidence and make excellent progress in their reading and writing.

The Role
  • Deliver high-quality phonics and literacy interventions to small groups of Key Stage 1 pupils.
  • Lead structured intervention sessions for children of mixed abilities, targeting identified learning gaps.
  • Support teachers with planning, assessment, and monitoring pupil progress.
  • Create engaging, inclusive learning environments that encourage children to achieve their full potential.
  • Work closely with class teachers and the SENDCo to ensure interventions meet individual pupil needs.
  • Provide regular feedback to staff and pupils to support ongoing development.
  • Promote positive behaviour and a love of learning throughout the school.
We're Looking For
  • Qualified HLTA status or an experienced Level 3 Teaching Assistant with a strong background in delivering interventions.
  • Excellent knowledge of phonics, with experience delivering programmes such as Read Write Inc. or similar.
  • Experience supporting pupils across Key Stage 1.
  • Confidence to lead small group sessions independently and use your initiative.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • A positive, flexible attitude and genuine passion for supporting children's learning.
  • Ability to provide two professional references.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
