Job summary

Wray Common Primary School is seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join four days per week, 8:15–15:45. You will lead whole-class activities in the absence of a teacher and support small groups and individuals to help pupils achieve their potential.

The role requires strong planning, literacy and numeracy skills, safeguarding awareness, and the ability to work collaboratively with staff and parents. An inclusive, positive learning environment is essential.

Qualifications

• GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent).
• First Aid trained or willingness to undertake training.
• Experience working with children or in a school setting.
• Ability to plan and deliver learning activities.
• Strong literacy and numeracy skills with good organisation.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Understanding of safeguarding and the curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Deliver lessons to whole classes during planned or unplanned teacher absence.
• Plan, deliver, and evaluate learning activities for individuals, groups and classes.
• Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback for improvement.

About this Role

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our team 4 days per week, working hours from 8:15 - 15:45.

In this rewarding role, you will work closely with teaching staff to deliver high-quality learning experiences, including leading whole-class lessons in the absence of a teacher and supporting small groups and individual pupils. You will play a key part in helping pupils achieve their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

• Deliver lessons to whole classes during planned and unplanned teacher absence
• Plan, deliver, and evaluate learning activities for individuals, groups, and classes
• Monitor pupil progress and provide clear feedback to support improvement
• Support pupils' literacy, numeracy, and wider curriculum learning
• Adapt teaching approaches to meet diverse learning needs, including SEND
• Promote positive behaviour, engagement, and emotional resilience

Pupil Support

• Support pupils' academic, social, and emotional development
• Help create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
• Contribute to pupil assessments and record-keeping
• Communicate effectively with staff, parents, and carers where appropriate

Teamwork & Leadership

• Work collaboratively with teaching staff and wider school team
• Provide guidance and day-to-day support to other classroom support staff
• Contribute to school events and attend meetings and training sessions
• Uphold confidentiality and safeguarding responsibilities at all times

General Duties

• Supervise pupils during breaktimes as required
• Prepare and use learning resources, including ICT tools
• Support the planning and delivery of interventionsli>

Follow all school policies, including safeguarding and behaviour

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

• GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above)
• First Aid trained (or willing to undertake training)
• Experienced in working with children or in a school setting
• Skilled in planning and delivering learning activities
• Strong literacy, numeracy, and organisational skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Good understanding of safeguarding, SEND, and the curriculum
• Confident using ICT to support teaching and learning
• Ability to remain calm, adaptable, and resourceful
