Job summary

The Primary First Trust Limited is seeking a highly capable Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our Cuxton-based team in Rochester, Kent. The HLTA will work with Teachers to deliver learning activities, support pupils with SEND and SEMH needs, and monitor progress.

We offer a stable permanent role, 32.5 hours per week, with 39 weeks paid for 44.45 weeks, and a commitment to professional development across our multi-school trust in Bexley, Gravesham and Medway.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children across the primary curriculum, including SEND/SEMH.
  • GCSEs in English and Maths (4/C or equivalent) or similar.
  • Willing to work towards HLTA status if not already.
  • Committed to ongoing professional development and best practice.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging learning activities for whole classes, small groups and individuals.
  • Cover classes during PPA time and teacher absence to maintain continuity of learning.
  • Provide targeted support and interventions for pupils with SEND/SEMH needs.
  • Monitor, assess, and report on pupils’ progress and development.

The Role

As an HLTA, you will work alongside Teachers and take responsibility for agreed learning activities. You will:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging learning activities for whole classes, small groups and individual pupils.
  • Cover classes during PPA time and Teacher absence, so that learning stays consistent and continuous.
  • Provide targeted support and interventions that help pupils become confident, independent learners.
  • Monitor, assess, record and report on pupils' progress and development.
  • Work with Teachers and our SEND team to plan and deliver individual support for pupils with special educational needs, including those with social, emotional and mental health needs.
  • Support positive behaviour and help keep the classroom a calm, focused and inclusive place to learn.
  • Build positive, professional relationships with pupils, parents and carers.

About You

We'd love to hear from you if you:

  • Are passionate about education and committed to helping every child reach their full potential.
  • Have experience of working with children across the primary curriculum, including pupils with SEND and SEMH needs.
  • Have excellent literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE grade 4/C or above in English and Mathematics, or equivalent).
  • Hold HLTA status or a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent), or are willing to work towards HLTA status.
  • Are confident leading a class and adapt your approach to meet children's individual needs.
  • Are enthusiastic, well organised, self-motivated and trustworthy.
  • Communicate well and maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
  • Are committed to developing your own practice.
