Job summary

Teaching Personnel Ltd is seeking an experienced Higher Level Learning Support Assistant in Newcastle Upon Tyne. You will work closely with class teachers, SENCOs and specialists to implement tailored support strategies for learners, delivering targeted academic, emotional and behavioural support to raise achievement across key stages.

The role involves collaboration with staff to plan and adapt activities, monitor pupil progress, and contribute to inclusive teaching resources and strategies.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children with additional learning needs.
  • Level 3 teaching/support qualification or equivalent.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and behaviour management skills.
  • Empathy, patience and a positive, solution-focused approach.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.

Job description

Job Title: Higher Level Learning Support Assistant

Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne

Salary: 110 - 130 per day

Contract Type: Full Time

Start Date: September 2026

About the role:

As an Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and external specialists to implement support strategies tailored to individual learners. You will provide targeted academic, emotional, and behavioural support, helping to raise achievement and promote positive outcomes across all key stages.

Key Responsibilites:
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with a range of SEND, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and learning difficulties.
  • Deliver targeted interventions in literacy, numeracy, communication, and social skills.
  • Assist in planning and adapting classroom activities to ensure accessibility and engagement for all learners.
  • Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress and behaviour, feeding back to staff and parents/carers as appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and support services to implement EHCP targets and personalised learning plans.
  • Support transitions, both within school and between educational settings.
  • Contribute to the development of inclusive teaching resources and strategies.
What we're looking for:
  • Experience working with children or young people with additional learning needs, preferably in a school or educational setting.
  • A relevant qualification at Level 3 or above (e.g. Supporting Teaching and Learning, Child Development, or equivalent).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and behaviour management skills.
  • Empathy, patience, and a positive, solution-focused approach.
  • A clear understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
What you'll need to be considered:
  • Enhanced Child workforce DBS on the update service or be willing to apply for one
  • Level 3 teaching/support qualification or higher
  • You will have previous experience working with children and/or young people, preferably within an education setting, or those with a minimum of a level 2 qualification (grade 4 or above in English and Mathematics).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
