Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a confident Learning Support Assistant to join our SEND team in the Northumberland area NE61. The role focuses on supporting English lessons up to GCSE level and helping students overcome barriers, build confidence and achieve their potential.

You will provide 1:1 and small group support, assist with reading and writing, collaborate with teachers, and help create inclusive, engaging learning experiences.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English required or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting students with SEND (ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, SEMH).
  • Ability to support reading, writing and comprehension.

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEND, primarily within English.

  • Confidently support content up to GCSE level.

A client school in the Northumberland area NE61 is seeking a confident, supportive and motivated Learning Support Assistant to join our SEND team. This role involves working closely with students who have a range of additional needs, with a particular focus on supporting learning within English lessons up to GCSE level. If you are passionate about helping young learners overcome barriers, build confidence, and achieve their full potential, this could be the perfect role for you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEND, primarily within English.
  • Assist learners in developing reading, writing and comprehension skills.
  • Confidently support content up to GCSE level.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to deliver personalised learning approaches.
  • Encourage independence, resilience and positive learning behaviours.
  • Adapt tasks and resources to suit individual learning needs.
  • Support classroom management and contribute to a calm, supportive learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
  • Be confident supporting GCSE-level English (spoken and written).
  • Have experience working with students with SEND (ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, communication needs, SEMH).
  • Be patient, consistent and committed to student progress.
  • Work effectively as part of a team and follow teacher guidance.
  • Be proactive, enthusiastic and able to build positive relationships with learners.
Beneficial Backgrounds Include:
  • Previous Learning Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant roles
  • English tutoring or literacy support experience
  • Youth work or mentoring

  • Graduates with strong English skills
  • Classroom experience within secondary or SEND environments

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
