Job summary

Supply Desk is seeking a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in Little Chalfont. The HLTA will support learning, development, and wellbeing, stepping in for the class teacher when needed and collaborating with the school team.

The role requires an HLTA/TA qualification or equivalent experience, strong communication and organisational skills, and a commitment to inclusive education and safeguarding. DBS checks and safeguarding compliance are expected.

Qualifications

• A relevant TA/HLTA qualification or equivalent experience.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Strong classroom and behaviour management abilities.

Responsibilities

• Support teachers in planning and delivering engaging learning activities.
• Lead lessons when the class teacher is absent, following school plans.
• Provide 1:1 and small group support to help students access the curriculum.
• Adapt support for a range of abilities and consider individual learning needs.
• Help develop literacy, numeracy, and other areas of student development.
• Support SEND students to engage positively with learning.

Key Responsibilities

• Support teachers in planning and delivering engaging, inclusive, and effective learning activities.
• Lead lessons and learning activities in the absence of the class teacher, following appropriate lesson plans and school procedures.
• Provide one-to-one and small group support to students, helping them access the curriculum and develop their confidence and independence.
• Work with students across a range of abilities, adapting support and activities to meet individual learning needs where appropriate.
• Support students with literacy, numeracy, communication, and other areas of their academic development.
• Provide targeted support to students with additional learning needs, including SEND, helping them engage positively with their learning.
• Encourage students to develop their confidence, independence, social skills, and positive attitudes towards learning.
• Help create a positive, stimulating, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation, curiosity, and respect.
• Support teachers with classroom management and promote positive behaviour throughout the school day.
• Monitor and provide feedback on students' progress, behaviour, and engagement, communicating any concerns to the class teacher or relevant staff.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, teaching assistants, parents, and the wider school team to support student progress and wellbeing.
• Assist with classroom preparation, displays, resources, assessments, and other duties that contribute to an effective learning environment.

Requirements

• A relevant Teaching Assistant, HLTA, education, or childcare qualification, or equivalent experience.
• A genuine passion for supporting students' learning, development, and wellbeing.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
• The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with students.
• Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
• The ability to work independently, use initiative, and respond confidently to different situations.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a range of tasks effectively.
• A proactive, flexible, and adaptable approach to supporting teachers and students.
• A commitment to inclusion and ensuring all students have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
• An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• A current enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
