Job summary

An established educational institution is looking for a passionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join their Early Years Foundation Stage team. Job description

Higher Level Teaching Assistant - Early Years

Grade 4 - £25,183 to £28,624 (FTE) per annum (£11,812 - £13,426 pro rata to hours and weeks worked)

Salary: £11,812 - £13,426 pro rata to hours and weeks

Working hours: Monday - Friday, 8.30am to 12.30pm (20 hours per week, term time only plus teacher training days, 39 weeks).

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and well-organised HLTA to join our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), initially in our school nursery from September 2025.

This role involves working collaboratively with responsible classroom teachers as a Teaching Assistant, utilizing detailed knowledge and specialist skills to undertake ‘specified work’ and provide care and supervision to pupils.

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning and preparing lessons for individuals, groups, and whole classes under the direction of teaching staff.
  • Delivering lessons and learning experiences to individuals, groups, and whole classes.
  • Assessing, marking, and reporting on pupils’ development, progress, and attainment.
  • Using specialist skills to meet the physical and emotional needs of students, including those with special educational, physical, or emotional needs.
  • Participating in professional development activities and supporting other staff in their development and training.
  • Assisting in supervising, training, and developing volunteer helpers, students, and staff.

Candidate requirements:

  • Must have a Level 3 Childcare Qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Knowledge of the EYFS Framework and the national curriculum, with willingness to develop further.
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults.
  • Ability to lead a class and support lesson planning and preparation.
  • Ability to inspire and enthuse students.
  • High expectations for all students.
  • Strong commitment to partnership with parents, colleagues, and the community.
  • Team player with a good sense of humour and positive attitude.
