Job summary

Heidelberg Materials UK, formerly Hanson UK, invites you to start a Higher Apprenticeship in Chester. Earn £25,084 while gaining a Level 5 Mineral Product Technician qualification and progressing toward the role of Area Technical Supervisor.

You will be employed from day one in our Technical department, supported by expert mentors, and study part-time with a university to apply theory directly to practice.

Qualifications

  • Must have 80+ UCAS points and five GCSEs including Maths, English and Science.
  • Driving licence required for UK travel.
  • Self-starter with ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Site Manager and gain hands-on experience across key operational areas.
  • Support Health & Safety and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Assist Environmental Management, Quality Assurance, and Compliance activities.
  • Contribute to production targets and plant/machinery management.
  • Participate in continuous improvement within the Technical department.

Training to become a Mineral Products Technician

This apprenticeship offers a structured pathway to becoming a Area Technical Supervisor. You’ll gain hands‑on experience across all aspects of our concrete business, supported by expert mentorship and formal training. You’ll develop the technical and professional skills needed for a successful career in the construction industry.

Real Work, Real Experience

You’ll be employed from day one, working alongside experienced professionals on real projects that shape the built environment within our Technical department. You’ll gain practical, hands‑on experience in a Technical role.

Structured Learning

Alongside your job, you’ll study part‑time with a university. Your learning is directly linked to your role, so you’ll see how theory applies in practice and vice versa.

What You’ll Be Doing

Working alongside the Site Manager, you’ll gain hands‑on experience and structured training across key operational areas:

  • Health & Safety: Support safety procedures and promote a strong safety culture through reporting and engagement.
  • Environmental Management: Assist with permit compliance, resource‑saving initiatives, and community liaison activities.
  • Quality Assurance: Work with the technical team to maintain product quality and operational efficiency.
  • Compliance: Help ensure all activities meet legal and company standards.
  • Operations & Production: Contribute to production targets, support plant and machinery management, and drive continuous improvement.
What We’re Looking For
  • Education:80+ UCAS points, 5 GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above) including Maths, English & Science
  • Driving Licence:Full UK licence
  • Skills:Self-starter, team player, excellent communicator, flexible and proactive
  • Status: British citizenship or UK settled status.
