Job summary

Heidelberg Materials UK is offering an apprenticeship pathway to become Area Technical Supervisor within our Technical department. From day one you'll work on real projects with mentorship and formal training.

You will study part-time at university while gaining hands-on experience across health and safety, environmental management, quality assurance, and operations, building a strong foundation for a technical career in construction.

Qualifications

  • UCAS points 80+ with five GCSEs grade 4/C or above including Maths, English and Science.
  • Part-time university study alongside on-the-job training.
  • Full UK driving licence required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Site Manager and gain hands-on experience across key operations.
  • Support safety procedures and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Contribute to production targets and plant/machinery management.
  • Engage in environmental and regulatory compliance activities.

Job description

This apprenticeship offers a structured pathway to becoming a Area Technical Supervisor. You'll gain hands-on experience across all aspects of our concrete business, supported by expert mentorship and formal training. You'll develop the technical and professional skills needed for a successful career in the construction industry.

Real Work, Real Experience You'll be employed from day one, working alongside experienced professionals on real projects that shape the built environment within our Technical department. You'll gain practical, hands-on experience in a Technical role.

Structured Learning Alongside your job, you'll study part-time with a university. Your learning is directly linked to your role, so you'll see how theory applies in practice and vice versa.

What You'll Be Doing

Working alongside the Site Manager, you'll gain hands-on experience across key operational areas:

  • Health & Safety: Support safety procedures and promote a strong safety culture through reporting and engagement.
  • Environmental Management: Assist with permit compliance, resource-saving initiatives, and community liaison activities.
  • Quality Assurance: Work with the technical team to maintain product quality and operational efficiency.
  • Compliance: Help ensure all activities meet legal and company standards.
  • Operations & Production: Contribute to production targets, support plant and machinery management, and drive continuous improvement., Pre-recorded interview: Complete a short online video interview
  • Interview and insight day: Attend a short visit to site and a face to face interview, and where you will prepare a 10 minute presentation
  • Online assessment: If your application meets the initial criteria, you will be asked to complete an online assessment to test your numerical, problem solving and analytical skills.
    Education: 80+ UCAS points, 5 GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above) including Maths, English & Science
  • Driving Licence: Full UK licence
  • Skills: Self-starter, team player, excellent communicator, flexible and proactive
  • Status: British citizenship or UK settled status.
