Job summary

Electricity North West is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to drive design across high‑voltage projects up to 132kV. You will shape concepts into detailed delivery, coordinate with project managers and construction teams, and contribute to new equipment evaluations.

Qualifications

• HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; degree qualification leading to chartered status preferred.
• Understanding of high‑voltage systems (132kV, 33kV, 11kV/6.6kV) and substation equipment.
• Familiarity with CDM regulations and their application in utility projects.
• Experience or interest in electrical design practices within the electricity or utilities sector.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver design strategies to support safe, efficient, and cost‑effective delivery of major electricity projects.
• Lead substation design activities, ensuring clear, consistent outputs across the capital programme.
• Collaborate with project managers, construction teams, and contractors throughout the full project lifecycle.
• Contribute to evaluation and introduction of new equipment, technologies, and approaches within transmission and protection systems.
• Provide accurate forecasts and project information to support planning and delivery.
• Support factory acceptance testing to ensure equipment meets required standards.
• Produce robust technical specifications for plants and equipment.
• Develop and maintain design standards across the business.
• Carry out protection settings calculations for reliable network performance.
