Job summary

SP Electricity North West is seeking an Electrical Layout Design Engineer to deliver high-quality substation layouts for 132kV networks. You will use AutoCAD to create clear drawings and develop practical layouts that support cost-efficient major capital projects.

You will collaborate with Project Managers, Construction Managers and Design Managers to meet time, cost and quality milestones. Applicants should have an HNC in Electrical Engineering, expert AutoCAD/RasterCAD skills, and HV system

Qualifications

• HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent and layout experience.
• Expert user of AutoCAD.
• Expert user of RasterCAD.
• Good knowledge of 132kV, 33kV and 11/6.6kV systems and substations including switchgear, transformers, overhead and underground circuits.
• Experience of CDM regulations relating to utility projects.
• Good team working and communication skills.
• Creative thinker, able to pre-empt project/schedule issues and adapt to change.
• Must be capable of drawing accurately to scale using model and paper space, layering etc and be able to manipulate views effectively.
• Must be able to produce plans and elevations from site measurements or archive drawings.
• UK Driving Licence and access to own car.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement electrical layouts delivering cost-effective solutions for Major Electricity Projects.
• Ensure project designs are developed in the appropriate format.
• Liaise with project managers, design, construction and project control sections.
• Provide accurate forecasts of information for projects under control.
• Manage ENWL Drawing Archives and Document Management System.
• Produce technical specifications for plant and layout components.
• Develop design standards for electrical layouts with the team and other departments.
• Produce Lighting and Small Power and earthing designs.
• Attend site meetings and surveys to develop layouts using Standard Solutions Methodology.
