Job summary

NY Highways is looking for HIAB Driver / Electrician Assistants to help install and maintain street lighting and highway infrastructure across North Yorkshire.

The role blends driving, excavation, groundworks, traffic management, and assistance to electricians, with a strong outdoors focus and teamwork. 3 month contract, Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 4:00pm, bi-weekly pay.

Qualifications

• Groundworks, utilities, excavation, highways maintenance, and street lighting installation experience.
• LGV Class 2 licence and CPC qualification.
• HIAB/ crane certificate and CSCS card.
• Full UK driving licence and knowledge of safety procedures.
• NRSWA, TM12D traffic management qualification and first aid.
• Experience in highways or street lighting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate LGV Class 2 vehicles and HIAB lifting equipment.
• Assist with street lighting installations and roadside infrastructure.
• Excavate pits and trenches for lighting connections.
• Support electrical teams and manage outdoor works.
• Establish and maintain traffic management setups.
• Conduct site risk assessments and adapt work plans.
• Load/unload materials safely and record paperwork accurately.
• Follow NY Highways health and safety standards.

Summary

Are you passionate about working outdoors and engaging in hands-on tasks? NY Highways is seeking skilled HIAB Driver / Electrician Assistants to aid in the installation and upkeep of street lighting, signage, and highway infrastructure throughout North Yorkshire. This role offers a diverse range of activities, including driving, excavation, groundworks, traffic management, and supporting electricians with street lighting installations. While driving is a component of the job, the primary focus is on manual excavation and groundworks, making it perfect for those who thrive in outdoor environments and enjoy teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Operate LGV Class 2 vehicles and HIAB lifting equipment.
  
• Support the installation of street lighting columns and roadside infrastructure.
  
• Excavate pits and trenches for lighting installations and connection points.

• Assist electricians with both underground and above-ground installations.
  
• Establish and maintain traffic management setups.
  
• Conduct dynamic site risk assessments and modify work activities as needed.
  
• Safely load and unload materials, equipment, and machinery.

• Adhere to NY Highways policies, procedures, and health and safety standards.
