Job Description:

We are recruiting for a permanent HGV / PSV Vehicle Technician to service, repair, and maintain the Council's fleet across the Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole area.

The role involves ensuring vehicles meet legal standards set by relevant governing bodies and supporting the provision of efficient vehicles to frontline services.

Hours:

6am - 2.30pm Monday to Friday (37 hours per week)

Main Responsibilities:
  • Carry out examinations, inspections, and reports on vehicle condition, roadworthiness, and safety.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine servicing within scheduled periods.
  • Use tools, equipment, and facilities safely and efficiently, maintaining high workmanship standards.
  • Comply with all Health and Safety regulations, Risk Assessments, and Safe Working Practices, including statutory requirements.
  • Undertake additional duties as required, consistent with the post's grade.
  • Participate in and deliver staff training to maintain and improve skills and knowledge.
  • Provide a full repair and maintenance service for the Council's vehicle fleet.
  • Ensure compliance with the Council's Operators Licence.
The Ideal Candidate:
  • Experience working in a busy Commercial Vehicle Workshop.
  • HGV Licence.
  • Experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining municipal fleet vehicles, including refuse collection vehicles, road sweepers, light commercial vehicles, tractors, trailers, and vans.
  • Industry-recognized qualifications such as City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3, or industry equivalent.
  • Ability to work effectively both in a team and independently.
  • Proficiency in electronically reporting defects, repairs, and parts used.
