Job summary

Volvo Trucks is seeking a hands-on HGV Technician Supervisor to lead our workshop team in Wilstead, Bedford. You will supervise technicians, allocate work, ensure servicing and repairs meet standards, and maintain safety and quality.

This role emphasizes strong communication with the workshop controller and CSR, coaching for performance, and promoting a positive, professional environment. A full UK driving licence (HGV licence a plus) and NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance are required.

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.
  • Full UK driving licence; HGV licence is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a team of HGV Technicians within the workshop.
  • Allocate and prioritise work to ensure jobs are completed efficiently and on time.
  • Oversee servicing, maintenance, inspections and repairs of HGVs and commercial vehicles.
  • Ensure all work meets manufacturer and company standards.
  • Maintain high health and safety standards and workshop housekeeping.
  • Carry out quality checks and ensure vehicles are safe before release.
  • Diagnose and assist with complex technical issues as needed.
  • Monitor workshop productivity and job progress.
  • Liaise with service advisors, transport operators and other departments.
  • Support technician training, development and performance.

Technician Supervisor, HGV – Volvo Truck & Bus (London South)
  • Monday to Friday
  • Working a rotating shift pattern 0600hrs to 1430hrs/1430hrs to 2300hrs

We’re looking for a hands-on Technician Supervisor to keep our workshop running smoothly and our customers on the road.

Working closely with the team to create high levels of morale and focus to ensure that work is completed in a timely manner and with excellence in quality.

Effective communication with the Workshop Controller and CSR’s to ensure that technicians have valid job specifications and time budget prior to work commencing. Ensuring that customer expectations are always managed by working with each stage of the Genuine Volvo Service process.

Maximising the shifts performance through effective problem solving, coaching & development.

Who Are You
  • Qualified to NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.
  • Workshop experience – ideally in trucks/buses – with some supervisory know-how.
  • A strong communicator who can get the best out of a team.
  • Organised, proactive, and customer focused.
  • Full UK driving licence (HGV licence a big plus)
  • To be able to manage and motivate a team of technicians in their daily activities
  • To be able to effectively communicate at all levels both written and verbally
  • To be able to work in an organised & methodical manner ensuring that all daily tasks are completed
  • To be able to delegate work to the appropriate personnel
  • To be able to operate GDS and Impact systems, specific to the GVS process stages
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook

If you have previously worked as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic, Heavy Goods Vehicle Mechanic, or Commercial Vehicle Technician, your skills are highly relevant to this role. We also value transferable expertise from allied industries; candidates with backgrounds as a PSV Technician, PCV Mechanic, Bus and Coach Technician, or a Heavy Plant Mechanic / Plant Technician are strongly encouraged to apply, as full product training on our modern fleet will be provided.
