Job summary

Derby City Council is seeking an HGV Technician to join a busy workshop at Stores Road. You will inspect, service and repair a diverse fleet of municipal vehicles, including refuse collection and road sweepers, ensuring safety, compliance and reliability.

The role offers a guaranteed basic salary of £38,510–£41,177 p.a. with a £42,000 on-target earnings potential, 37 hours per week, and full training plus extensive employee benefits.

Qualifications

• A Level 3 qualification in heavy vehicle maintenance and repair (City & Guilds/NVQ or equivalent).
• Experience maintaining and repairing heavy goods vehicles.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
• Understanding of commercial vehicle safety inspections and DVSA test preparation.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, service, maintain and repair HGVs and related equipment.
• Perform planned preventative maintenance and vehicle safety inspections.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic faults.
• Prepare vehicles for DVSA annual tests and complete repairs as needed.
• Accurately complete inspection, maintenance and repair documentation.
