Job summary

Carrington West is recruiting a Heavy Vehicle Technician for a Local Authority Fleet Services workshop in Nottingham. You will service, repair and inspect a range of council fleet vehicles, including HGVs, light commercial and municipal vehicles, with exposure to electric/hybrid models.

Ideal candidates will hold City & Guilds Level 3 in Heavy Motor Vehicle Engineering, have strong diagnostic skills, and a valid Category C driving licence.

Qualifications

  • Holding a City & Guilds Level 3 qualification in Heavy Motor Vehicle Engineering, or an equivalent qualification covering MOT inspection standards.
  • Previous experience maintaining and repairing HGVs, commercial vehicles or municipal fleet vehicles.
  • DVSA inspection and testing qualification.
  • Full UK Driving Licence with Category C entitlement (essential).
  • Experience carrying out vehicle inspections, safety checks and preparation for MOT testing.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of safety, quality and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out servicing, maintenance and repairs on a variety of council fleet vehicles.
  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults.
  • Preparing vehicles for MOT inspections and completing safety checks.
  • Carrying out welding, fabrication and body repair works where required.
  • Responding to vehicle breakdowns and accident-damaged vehicles.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records and ensuring high workshop standards.
  • Supporting the wider Fleet Services team with the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle fleet.

Location: Nottingham

Rate: £35 per hour (Umbrella PAYE)

Contract: Initial 3-month contract with potential for extension

Working Arrangements: Monday-Friday only, working within a Local Authority Fleet Services workshop environment

Exciting Opportunity for a Heavy Vehicle Technician in Nottingham

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Heavy Vehicle Technician to join a Local Authority Fleet Services team in Nottingham. You will be responsible for maintaining, repairing and inspecting a wide range of council vehicles, including HGVs, light commercial vehicles, municipal vehicles, and electric/hybrid models.

The main duties of the Heavy Vehicle Technician include:
  • Carrying out servicing, maintenance and repairs on a variety of council fleet vehicles.
  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults.
  • Preparing vehicles for MOT inspections and completing safety checks.
  • Carrying out welding, fabrication and body repair works where required.

  • Strong diagnostic skills with experience across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
  • DVSA inspection and testing qualification.
