Job summary

Russell Taylor Group in Shoreham-by-Sea is seeking a qualified HGV Technician to maintain and repair a varied range of heavy commercial vehicles. You will work as part of a skilled, supportive team to ensure work is completed safely and to high standards.

The role involves routine servicing, diagnostic fault finding, and preparing vehicles for MOT, while adhering to DVSA requirements. A Level 3 qualification and UK driving licence are essential, with an HGV licence advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Repair and replace components (brakes, steering, suspension, transmissions, electrical systems)
• Prepare vehicles for MOT and ensure roadworthiness

Job description

You will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a varied range of heavy commercial vehicles, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest possible standard. This role would suit a qualified technician who takes pride in their workmanship and enjoys working as part of a skilled and supportive team.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and commercial vehicles
• Complete scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance in line with DVSA requirements
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical and electronic faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment
• Repair and replace components including brakes, steering, suspension, transmissions and electrical systems
• Prepare vehicles for MOT and ensure they meet all required roadworthiness standards
• Attend vehicle breakdowns when requiredAccurately complete job cards, inspection sheets and compliance documentation
• Identify additional defects and report any required repairs
• Ensure work is completed efficiently while maintaining excellent quality and safety standards
• Keep tools, equipment and the workshop clean, organised and properly maintained

Skills and Experience

• Previous experience working as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic, Commercial Vehicle Technician or Heavy Vehicle Technician
• A recognised Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent experience
• Strong mechanical, electrical and diagnostic skills
• Good knowledge of DVSA inspection and maintenance requirements
• The ability to work independently and as part of a workshop team
• A reliable, organised and safety-focused approach
• A full UK driving licence
• An HGV licence would be advantageous but is not essential
