Job summary

Workforce Staffing Ltd is seeking an experienced HGV Mechanic/Heavy Vehicle Technician to join our growing maintenance team in Barnsley. You will service, maintain and repair HGVs and trailers, diagnose faults and prepare vehicles for MOT while ensuring DVSA compliance.

The ideal candidate will have NVQ Level 2/3 or City & Guilds in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, strong diagnostic skills, DVSA knowledge and a full UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic/Heavy Vehicle Technician.
• NVQ Level 2/3 or City & Guilds in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities.
• Knowledge of DVSA standards and vehicle compliance.
• UK driving licence; HGV licence desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and trailers.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT and ensure DVSA compliance.
• Complete inspections and preventative maintenance.
• Respond to breakdowns and carry out emergency repairs.

Are you an experienced HGV Mechanic or Heavy Vehicle Technician looking for a great opportunity with a well-established and growing business?

We’re looking for a skilled, reliable and motivated technician to join our maintenance team in Barnsley.

You’ll play a vital role in keeping our HGV fleet and trailers safe, roadworthy, compliant and operating at their best.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and trailers.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT and ensure they meet all legal and DVSA requirements.
• Complete inspections and preventative maintenance.
• Respond to breakdowns and carry out emergency repairs when required.
• Keep accurate service, inspection and repair records.
• Work safely and professionally in line with company procedures.
• Work closely with drivers, transport managers and the wider workshop team.

You’ll ideally have:

• Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic, HGV Technician or Heavy Vehicle Technician.
• A relevant Level 2/3 NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities.
• Good knowledge of DVSA standards and vehicle compliance.
• The ability to work independently while being a strong team player.
• A full UK driving licence. HGV licence desirable but not essential.
• Good communication, organisation and attention to detail.
• Experience working across a range of commercial vehicle manufacturers.
• HGV Class 1 or Class 2 licence.
• IRTEC accreditation.
• Experience using electronic diagnostic equipment.
• £18.45 per hour
• Overtime paid at 1.5x
