Job summary

Work Wales is seeking an experienced HGV Fitter to join our busy Bridgend workshop. You will service and repair a modern fleet of heavy goods vehicles and plant equipment, ensuring safety, reliability and compliance.

The role offers a stable, full-time position in a well-equipped workshop with opportunities to develop technical skills. Applicants should have proven diagnostic skills, strong knowledge of HGV systems, and the ability to read technical manuals and wiring schematics.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an HGV Fitter, HGV Technician, or HGV Mechanic.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
• Sound knowledge of HGV systems including engines, braking, suspension, hydraulics and electrical systems.
• Competent in the use of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and wiring schematics.
• Full UK Driving Licence is essential.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, service, and repair HGVs and associated plant equipment.
• Carry out Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) on fleet vehicles.
• Identify and rectify mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT testing and statutory inspections.
• Accurately record repairs, defects, and workshop time.
• Maintain a safe, organised, and compliant workshop environment, including COSHH compliance.
• Liaise with the Workshop Manager regarding parts and stock.
• Provide technical support and advice regarding vehicle defects and breakdowns.

Up to £20 per hour (depending on experience)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced HGV Fitter / Mechanic to join a busy workshop team. This role is primarily focused on the maintenance and repair of a modern fleet of heavy goods vehicles and associated plant machinery.

This position is ideal for a skilled mechanic who takes pride in delivering high quality workmanship while maintaining the highest standards of safety, reliability, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, service, and repair HGVs and associated plant equipment.
• Carry out Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) on fleet vehicles.
• Identify and rectify mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT testing and statutory inspections.
