Job summary

FedEx is seeking a self-motivated Heavy Goods Vehicle Maintenance Technician to join the Engineering Team at the Vehicle Maintenance Unit in Preston. You will maintain safety and reliability by servicing FedEx fleet to scheduled plans.

Working hours are 40 per week with an afternoon shift 14:00–22:30. Base pay £21.70 per hour, plus premiums for evening and night hours. You’ll complete service records and assist with MOT readiness, performing repairs and inspections to keep vehicles roadworthy.

Qualifications

• Full LGV C&E licence (class 1) or equivalent.
• City & Guilds parts 1 & 2 or equivalent in commercial vehicle repairs.
• Knowledge of automotive testing and troubleshooting equipment.
• Ability to lift and manoeuvre heavy vehicle components.
• Welding and basic DC electrical troubleshooting experience.
• Must possess a valid driving licence.
• Previous experience in a similar role.

Responsibilities

• Complete service and inspection records as required.
• Complete defect reports and paperwork to meet legal requirements.
• Prepare vehicles/trailers for annual MOT testing to achieve 1st time pass.
• Perform ad-hoc repairs and rectify vehicle defects.
• Ensure safe and effective use of all tools and equipment.
• Maintain good housekeeping and carry out other duties as needed by management.
