Job summary

The Best Connection is recruiting HGV Class 1 and Class 2 Shunter Drivers for an ongoing Day Shift role based in Longbenton. This yard-based position has no road work and offers full training for newly qualified drivers.

Shunters will perform yard movements, cabin/trailer cleaning, and exterior jet washing, with weekday and weekend day shifts and paid breaks. On-site role with excellent support and benefits.

Qualifications

• Valid UK HGV Class 1 (CE) or Class 2 (C) driving licence.
• Newly passed drivers are encouraged to apply; full training provided.
• No CPC/Digi Tacho card required for this yard-based role.
• On-site yard position with no road deliveries.

Responsibilities

• Shunting duties: move Class 1/2 vehicles and trailers within the client yard.
• Vehicle upkeep: clean cabins and trailers to high standards.
• Exterior cleaning: jet wash vehicle exteriors and trailers.
• No road driving; no multi-drop or customer-facing tasks.

Job description

The Best Connection is currently recruiting HGV Class 1 and Class 2 Shunter Drivers for an ongoing Day Shift position with our prominent client based in Longbenton.

This yard-based role is entirely free of multi-drop deliveries or public road driving, making it the ideal opportunity for newly passed drivers looking to gain valuable heavy goods vehicle experience. It is also an excellent fit for drivers who have let their Driver CPC or Digital Tachograph card lapse, as these are not required for this on-site yard position.

The Role

• Shunting duties: Safely moving Class 1 and Class 2 vehicles and trailers around the secure client yard.
• Vehicle upkeep: Cleaning vehicle cabins and trailers to maintain high standards.
• Exterior cleaning: Jet washing vehicle exteriors and trailers.
• No road driving: This is a 100% on-site yard role with no multi-drop deliveries or customer-facing responsibilities.

Hours of Work

• Day Shift pattern (Weekday and weekend shift patterns available).
• 9-hour shifts with all breaks fully paid.

The Candidate Requirements

• Licence: A valid UK HGV Class 1 (Category CE) or Class 2 (Category C) driving licence.
• Experience: Newly passed drivers are highly encouraged to apply! No prior shunting experience is required as full training is provided.
• CPC/Digi Card: Not required. If your CPC or Digi Tacho has lapsed, you can still legally work in this yard-based role.
