Job summary

Liverpool City Council is seeking an HGV Driver Operative to support frontline waste services, including Domestic, Recycling and Commercial Waste.

You will drive and operate heavy goods vehicles, perform checks, follow safety rules, and plan efficient routes to meet targets. The role runs Monday to Friday 6:30am–2:00pm with an annual irregular hours allowance; ideal for proactive, customer-focused drivers.

Qualifications

• Must hold Category C driving licence and Driver Qualification Card.
• Experience driving HGV in a work environment.
• Strong communication, workload management and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate heavy goods vehicles in line with legislation and policies.
• Carry out daily waste collections and plan routes.
• Perform vehicle checks and document activities.
• Ensure waste is processed at transfer stations and collections meet targets.
• Follow health and safety procedures and handle materials safely.
