Job summary

Northumberland County Council is seeking a Highway Maintenance Driver to support the county’s road network. This permanent role is 37 hours per week across Northumberland’s highways, and requires an HGV licence to operate swept vehicles and perform safety checks.

You will conduct pre-shift checks, manage waste and debris, and perform temporary traffic management, while adhering to health and safety standards. The Local Government Pension Scheme is available.

Qualifications

• An HGV licence is required.
• Ability to work unsupervised between sites.
• Knowledge of driving legislation and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Drive and manage truck-mounted or compact sweeping vehicles along designated routes.
• Conduct daily walk-around and mechanical safety checks, ensuring vehicle roadworthiness.
• Set up temporary traffic management with safety cones, barriers, and temporary traffic lights.
• Adjust equipment for sweeping and debris collection to maintain cleanliness of roads.
• Assist with drainage maintenance and minor highway repairs as directed.
