Northumberland County Council is seeking a Highways Operative based at the Alnwick depot to support maintenance and construction tasks across the county’s highway network.

You will perform site safety, excavation, pothole repairs, drainage work, and assist with kerbing, paving, and traffic management under supervision. A Level 2 highways qualification is preferred, plus the ability to drive up to 7.5 tonnes. Local government benefits apply.

Formación

• A level 2 qualification or equivalent in Highways or working towards a trade qualification.
• Knowledge and experience of civil groundworks is essential and should include working within a live Highway environment.

Responsabilidades

• Set up temporary traffic management, including safety cones, barriers, and temporary traffic lights to protect the crew and public.
• Dig holes manually or with machinery to repair road structures, locate underground cables safely, and backfill surfaces.
• Cut, clear, rake, and lay new asphalt, tarmac, or concrete patches under guidance.
• Help lift, set, and level kerbs, channels, block paving, and modular slabs; carry out highway repairs and maintenance works.
• Clear gully pots, clean out drains, and install or repair drainage pipes; excavate trenches, lay pipes, operate jetting plant.
