Job summary

Northumberland County Council is seeking a Highways Operative/Driver at the Morpeth depot to join a team maintaining and developing the county’s highway network.

You will perform a range of highway repairs, drainage works and operate a variety of plant, while ensuring vehicle checks and safety procedures are followed. This role supports residents and local businesses through reliable highway services.

Qualifications

• Level 2 qualification or equivalent in Highways or working towards a trade qualification.
• Knowledge of civil groundworks in a live highway environment.
• Ability to drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes.

Responsibilities

• Carry out highway repairs and maintenance works including paving, kerbs, drainage and minor landscaping reinstatement.
• Install, maintain and repair drainage systems with excavation and pipe laying.
• Operate highways plant and equipment such as compactors, rollers, mini-excavators and road rollers.
• Drive and maintain the security of non-HGV vehicles; complete daily/weekly checks and log sheets.
