Job summary

Rochdale Borough Council’s Waste and Recycling Service is hiring a Class 2 HGV Waste Services Driver at Green Lane Depot, Heywood, Rochdale. Join a dedicated team delivering essential services to residents and supporting recycling efforts across the borough.

This permanent role offers a four-day week pattern (Tue–Fri) and 37 hours per week, with opportunities for development within a supportive, values-driven council environment.

Qualifications

• Holds a valid HGV Class C (Class 2) licence.
• Current Driver CPC qualification.
• Enjoys working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Physically fit for a demanding operational role.
• Works well in a team and can use own initiative.
• Positive, flexible and proactive approach to work.
• Excellent customer service skills and professional demeanor.
• Confident with in-cab technology and basic electronic records.
• Good literacy and numeracy skills.
• Committed to health and safety and safe working practices.

Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for your vehicle and crew, ensuring compliance with driving regulations and the Council's Operator's Licence requirements.
• Collect a range of waste and recycling materials, delivering a reliable service to residents.
• Ensure scheduled routes, missed collections and assisted collections are completed efficiently.
• Drive safely and responsibly in line with road traffic legislation and Council procedures.
• Carry out daily vehicle checks and basic maintenance inspections, reporting defects promptly.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and present vehicles to a high standard.
• Safely clear any spillages arising during collections.
• Complete required compliance checks, records and documentation using electronic systems.
• Wear appropriate uniform and PPE at all times.
• Report accidents, incidents and near misses in line with Council procedures.
• Support a positive, safe and respectful working environment for colleagues and residents.
