Job summary

The Recruitment Crowd are currently recruiting Class 1 Shunters to join EVRi Barnsley. Shifts: 6pm-6am OR 6am-6pm, working a 4 on 4 off pattern. Pay rates vary by day and night: Days £17.21, £18.87, £19.20; Nights £18.59, £21.69, £22.96.

Full UK driving licence with Class 1 entitlement, DCPC and Digital Tachograph card, and no more than 6 points are required. Role involves non-stop shunting of trailers, vehicle inspections, and coordinating with yard/dispatch for smooth operations.

Qualifications

• Full UK driving licence with Class 1 entitlement (C+E).
• Valid DCPC and Digital Tachograph card.
• No more than 6 points on licence.
• Successful completion of assessment including theory on drivers hours and road laws and a practical element.
• Full understanding of WTD legislation.
• Excellent communication skills.
• A safety-first mindset.

Responsibilities

• Perform non-stop shunting of trailers within the yard to ensure efficient operations, averaging 150 shunts a shift.
• Safely manoeuvre vehicles in tight and busy spaces.
• Conduct pre- and post-operation vehicle inspections to ensure safety and reliability.
• Adhere to all health and safety regulations and procedures.
• Coordinate with the yard and dispatch teams to maintain seamless workflow.
• Report any defects or issues promptly to the maintenance team.
• Maintain accurate records of shunting activities and vehicle movements.
• Assist with other yard duties as needed.

• Successful completion of assessment, including theory element which is two questionnaires based on drivers' hours and road laws and a practical element which will be based on yard reversing and a short driving test.
