Job summary

Lockwood Group, a family‑run transport and storage specialist, is seeking experienced HGV drivers to operate from S&R Smith and Son, West Thurrock RM20 4EL. You will perform general haulage, maintain top customer service, and communicate promptly with the Transport team to ensure timely deliveries.

The role offers a permanent contract with guaranteed hours, comprehensive training opportunities, and a modern fleet. A strong work ethic and reliability are essential.

Qualifications

• Fully qualified HGV Class 1 (C+E) driver with CPC, Digi card and good Tachograph knowledge.
• Reliable, punctual and flexible with a strong customer service focus.
• Previous Class 1 experience is preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general haulage duties safely and professionally.
• Maintain excellent levels of customer service and clear Transport team communication.
• Deliver goods in a timely and professional manner.

Job description

Established in 1965, the Lockwood Group is a family run business and currently has over 400 employees spanning 8 UK sites. The group’s activities include UK haulage and storage, frozen food production and co-packing solutions.

S&R Smith and Son, West Thurrock (part of the Lockwood Group of Companies) specialise in general haulage & distribution in and around the South East of England.

New business developments on the horizon are allowing us to recruit experienced HGV drivers. We are looking for drivers to be based from S&R Smith and Son, RM20 4EL.

Shift Pattern:

Monday - Friday Days

Hours:

44 hours guarenteed pay per week based on a full working week. Salary range based on on target earnings, average 60 hours per week.

Hours may vary in accordance with business needs and reasonable additional hours may be required.

Rate:

£16.00 per hour

Other bonuses:

The Role:

• General Haulage
• To maintain excellent levels customer service
• To ensure accurate and timely communication with the Transport team
• To deliver goods in a timely and professional manner

Ideally the candidates would meet the following requirements:

• Candidates will be a fully qualified HGV Class 1 (C+E) driver with a CPC, valid Digi card and a good understanding of Tachograph and WTD rules.
• You will be reliable and punctual and have a flexible approach
• Good verbal communication with excellent customer service skills and a professional approach
• Previous Class 1 experience is preferred but not essential.
