Job summary

Rapier is seeking HGV Class 1 Shunters for a busy supermarket distribution site in Daventry. The role operates on a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern with 12-hour nights from 18:00 to 06:00, offering stable, long-term hours and a consistent work schedule.

You will move and position trailers, connect/disconnect, and perform safety checks while coordinating with transport and warehouse teams. A valid Class 1 licence and 12 months driving experience are required; shunting experience is desirable.

Qualifications

• Minimum 12 months HGV driving experience.
• Valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) licence.
• Shunting experience desirable.
• Understanding of trailer and vehicle safety checks.
• Ability to follow electronic movement instructions using C3.

Responsibilities

• Move and position trailers and containers around the site.
• Move trailers on and off loading bays.
• Connect and disconnect trailers safely.
• Carry out trailer and vehicle safety checks.
• Position trailers correctly for loading and unloading.
• Move trailers between designated areas on site.
• Use the C3 terminal to receive and complete movement tasks.
• Follow movement instructions through the C3 system.
• Communicate with transport and warehouse teams.
• Follow all site traffic management and health & safety procedures.
• Maintain high standards of vehicle and site safety.

We are currently recruiting HGV Class 1 Shunters for a busy supermarket distribution site in Daventry.

The Role
As an HGV Shunter, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trailers around the distribution site, ensuring trailers are correctly positioned and ready for loading and unloading.
Duties include:

• Moving and positioning trailers and containers around the site.
• Moving trailers on and off loading bays.
• Connecting and disconnecting trailers safely.
• Carrying out trailer and vehicle safety checks.
• Positioning trailers correctly for loading and unloading.
• Moving trailers between designated areas of the site.
• Using the C3 terminal within the Tug to receive and complete movement tasks.
• Following movement instructions through the C3 system.
• Communicating with the transport and warehouse teams.
• Following all site traffic management and health & safety procedures.
• Ensuring all movements are completed safely and efficiently.
• Maintaining a high standard of vehicle and site safety.

Requirements

• Valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) licence.
• Minimum 12 months HGV driving experience.
• Previous shunting experience is desirable.
• Good understanding of trailer and vehicle safety checks.
• Comfortable working within a busy distribution environment.
• Able to follow electronic movement instructions using C3.
• Reliable, punctual and safety-conscious.
