Job summary

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is seeking up to two consultant hepatologists to join an expanding hepatology service.

The post covers inpatient hepatology beds, GI bleed on-call, outpatient clinics, endoscopy, and teaching junior doctors across multiple hospital sites and community settings.

Applicants must have GMC registration with CCT or CESR and JAG accreditation for upper and lower GI endoscopy; leadership and teaching responsibilities are a key part of the role.

Qualifications

• MB BS or equivalent.
• MRCP or MRCS or equivalent.
• Current BLS certificate.

Responsibilities

• Provide rotational cover for hepatology beds across sites.
• Take part in a 1:17 GI bleed on-call rota.
• Provide weekday hepatology in-reach services.
• Run hepatology outpatient clinics and endoscopy sessions across sites and community settings.
• Cover colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences.
• Supervise and manage junior medical staff, including training.
• Contribute to service development and planning with consultants, the CMG, GPs and commissioners.
• Deliver undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education, including teaching and examination duties.
• Participate in audit, clinical governance and CPD with the Quality and Safety Team.
• Hold managerial and budget responsibilities where appropriate.
• Respond to Trust requests and investigations of incidents and complaints.
• Ensure safeguarding of patients in line with GMC Good Medical Practice.
