Job summary

Royal Mail is recruiting Level 2 qualified vehicle mechanics for Thurrock Workshop on a permanent contract. The role involves inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet including light and heavy vehicles, with a rotating shift pattern and weekend work.

You will work in a modern, fully equipped workshop and have access to specialist tooling, PPE and training. A full UK driving license is required, with HGV/FLT beneficial, and a structured training plan with progression

Qualifications

• Qualified mechanic: advanced IMI Level 2 in Light/Heavy vehicle maintenance & repair or equivalent.
• Own toolkit for standard repairs.
• UK driving license (full, manual) is required.
• HGV/FLT licence advantageous.
• High working standards and pride in workmanship.
• Flexible to service demands and shifts.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, maintain and repair a range of vehicles, trailers and equipment.
• Carry out routine maintenance using personal toolkit.
• Access specialist tooling in modern workshops.

We’re recruiting an Level 2 qualified mechanics at Thurrock Workshop on a Permanent contract.

Overtime is paid at 1.4 x the hourly rate.

Working Hours: Full time - 39.5 hours per week (rotating shift pattern; week 1: 06:00 - 14:24, week 2: 11:36 - 20:00). You will be required to work 1 in 3 Saturdays (with a weekday day off).

• You’ll perform a full range of inspections, diagnostic, maintenance, and repair procedures on a range of vehicles, trailers, and mechanical equipment.
• You’ll use your own personal toolkit to undertake routine maintenance and repair light / heavy goods vehicles.
• You’ll also have access to specialist tooling and shared equipment in our modern, fully equipped workshops.

A Bit About You

• Qualified mechanic: you’re fully qualified to an advanced level (IMI Level 2 in Light or Heavy vehicle maintenance & repair or equivalent). You’ve got your own toolkit for standard repairs.
• Varied vehicle experience: Proven Vehicle Technician experience working on a wide range of vehicles, for example LCV / HGV.
• Valid UK driving license: You hold a full manual UK driving license, HGV/FLT licence would be advantageous.
• High working standards: you take pride in your work and do what is necessary to make sure the job is done effectively.
• Flexible to service demands: you’re able to work on a flexible shift rota. You’re always willing to support your team where necessary.
