Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust in Cambridge is seeking a Healthcare Assistant for 37.5 hours per week on a fixed-term contract of 12 months. Based at the iCaSH Cambridgeshire site, you will support contraception and sexual health services across the county.

The role requires front-of-house skills, careful handling of sensitive information and training in phlebotomy, microscopy and chaperone duties, or a willingness to undertake training.

Qualifications

  • Front of house experience with a warm, welcoming rapport
  • Understanding of sensitivity and confidentiality in contraception, sexual health and HIV services
  • Hold a Care Certificate or willingness to undertake training; trained in phlebotomy, microscopy and chaperone duties

Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients and collect personal and clinical details while treating information as confidential
  • Act as a chaperone and assist clinicians with intimate examinations when signed off as competent
  • Provide phlebotomy services for patients attending the service
  • Undertake non-clinical duties: call handling, reception, patient registration and booking
  • Read and interpret microscopy slides as directed by clinicians and document findings
  • Be non-judgemental to all client groups
  • Provide screening for asymptomatic patients as required after training and sign-off
  • Administer prescribed vaccines following SOPs where required
  • Hold the Care Certificate and uphold associated standards of care

Role Overview

iCaSH Cambridgeshire, Cambridge - Healthcare Assistant 37.5hrs per week . Fixed term contract - 12 months

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, committed and experienced Healthcare Assistant to provide high quality services to the community who use the Integrated Contraception and Sexual Health (iCaSH) services across Cambridgeshire. You will be based at our site in Cambridge.

Requirements
  • You have, 'front of house', experience, with a demonstrable ability to develop a warm and welcoming rapport with people who use our services.
  • You have a keen eye for detail and have an understanding of the sensitivity and confidentiality involved in the delivery of a contraception, sexual health and HIV service.
  • You are required to hold a Care Certificate qualification, be trained to provide both phlebotomy, microscopy and chaperone duties, or demonstrate a willingness to undertake training.
  • Clinic hours are Monday-Friday and may include one late night to 8pm. You must be willing to work across all parts of the service where appropriate and be able to meet the travel requirements of the Trust.
Responsibilities
  • To welcome patients and obtain relevant personal and clinical details as appropriate treating all such information as confidential.
  • Following training, and once signed off as competent, to act as a chaperone and assist nurses/doctors to undertake intimate examinations/procedures and or sexual health screening on patients.
  • Following training, provide a phlebotomy service for patients attending the services.
  • To undertake non-clinical duties in support of the admin team, for example undertake call taking and reception cover including 0300 number answering, registering patients and booking, support data collection and or general patient and non-patient administration.
  • Following training, undertake, read and interpret microscopy slides as directed by clinicians and appropriately document and communicate the associated findings, if required by the clinical service.
  • To be non-judgemental to all client groups regardless of age/ethnicity/religion.
  • Where local services require and following training and sign off, provide a service for asymptomatic patients requesting a routine sexual health screen.
  • Following training and being deemed competent to do so, to administer prescribed vaccines in accordance with service guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures, if required by the clinical service.
  • Hold the Care Certificate and deliver the associated standards of care or undertake the training at the earliest opportunity upon recruitment to post.
