Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to join the dedicated team of Nursing and Medical Staff within the rehabilitation and post-operative care ward for Surgery and Trauma and Orthopaedics. G ward is a fast-paced, busy and active environment with a high turnover of patients consisting of 23 in-patient beds, dedicated to caring for patients who require post-operative care from trauma and orthopaedics and general surgery. The patient group generally requires a varying level of rehabilitation and discharge planning to ensure safe and effective discharge to their homes or care providers. You will work very closely with the MDT consisting of dedicated Nursing, Therapy Staff, Ortho-geriatricians, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and Discharge Co-Ordinator.

Main duties of the job
  1. To work as part of the Nursing Team undertaking household support tasks and direct care tasks as delegated by the Nurse in Charge.
  2. To support the qualified Nursing Staff in the maintenance of high standards of nursing care to patients.
  3. To assist in providing an environment within the ward that is conducive to patient recovery and pleasant for patients and their families.
  4. To accept responsibility for specifically delegated functions within the ward which the Nurse in Charge feels are appropriate for untrained staff to undertake.
  5. To ensure where entries are made in nursing documentation, that these are correct, legible and comprehensive and countersigned by a registered nurse.
  6. To understand and adhere to all Trust Policies.
  7. To ensure the Health and Safety of patients, relatives and other staff is considered and not prejudiced by the post-holder at any time.
  8. To ensure that privacy and dignity of patients is paramount and is not compromised.
  9. To ensure that all patient information is confidential and is not disclosed to a third party except with permission of the Nurse in Charge.
  10. To ensure that all patient care is delivered with the highest degree of professionalism.
  11. To present an appearance which gives a positive image of the Trust and a manner which is appropriate and which inspires confidence.
  12. To attend specifically fire and lifting and handling lectures annually and ensure appropriate updates are attended once H.C.A. training is complete.

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Ensure patient records are kept up to date and accurate and recording is done in line with Trust policies and procedures.

GENERAL DUTIES

  1. To observe the provisions of and adhere to all Trust policies and procedures.
  2. To actively participate in the annual performance review to identify personal development needs.
  3. To attend Trust Statutory and Mandatory training sessions as required and any other training courses relevant to the post.
  4. To fully comply with the relevant sections of the Health and Safety at Work Act.
  5. To be aware of the confidential aspects of the post.

The post holder should also be aware that, regardless of any action taken by the employing authority, breaches of confidentiality could result in civil action for damages.
