Job summary

Referment is seeking a Health & Safety Advisor to support major construction projects in the Oxford and Reading area. This site-based role requires a proven safety professional who can work closely with operational teams and drive high standards on complex sites.

You will provide practical guidance, carry out inspections, investigate incidents and ensure health and safety requirements are understood and applied on site. Five days per week on site, with driving license a must.

Qualifications

• Five years’ experience in a health and safety role within construction.
• Experience in civil engineering, reinforced concrete, infrastructure or structural construction is valuable.
• A recognised health and safety qualification (ideally NEBOSH Construction).
• Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and construction requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day health and safety guidance to site and project teams.
• Carry out regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews.
• Support development and implementation of project-specific health and safety plans.
• Review risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
• Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe practices and identify corrective actions.
• Deliver briefings and engage workforce on safety matters.
• Monitor subcontractor compliance and promote high safety standards across the project.
• Produce reports and contribute to safety performance improvements.

Referment is working with a leading specialist contractor to appoint a Health & Safety Advisor supporting major construction projects across the Oxford and Reading area.

This is a fully site-based role for an experienced Health & Safety professional who enjoys being visible on projects, working closely with operational teams and helping to maintain high standards across complex construction environments.

You will provide practical advice and support to project teams, carry out inspections and audits, investigate incidents and ensure that health and safety requirements are understood and consistently applied on site.

The Role

• Provide day-to-day health and safety guidance to site and project teams.
• Carry out regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews.

• Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe practices, identifying appropriate corrective actions.
• Deliver briefings and support workforce engagement on health and safety matters.
• Monitor subcontractor compliance and promote consistently high standards across the project.
• Produce clear reports and contribute to ongoing improvements in health and safety performance.

What We’re Looking For

• A minimum of five years’ experience in a Health & Safety role within a construction environment.
• Experience within civil engineering, reinforced concrete, infrastructure or structural construction would be particularly valuable.
• A recognised health and safety qualification, ideally NEBOSH Construction or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and construction industry requirements.
• The confidence to challenge unsafe working practices and influence teams at all levels.
• A practical, site-focused approach and the ability to build effective working relationships.
• A full UK driving licence.
• The ability to work on site five days per week in the Oxford and Reading area.
