Job summary

Principal People Recruitment is seeking a Health and Safety Advisor for a Leicester-based construction contractor delivering refurbishment and fit-out projects up to £3m. You will drive safety compliance, embed a positive safety culture, and report to the Director.

The role offers £40,000-£50,000, mileage paid at 45p per mile, 22 days holiday plus bank holidays, and a stable, long-term position with autonomy and strong leadership support.

Qualifications

• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively.
• Experience in health and safety on construction projects is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out day-to-day health and safety across multiple projects (Leicestershire with some travel).
• Writing and reviewing Construction Phase Plans and RAMS.
• Carrying out site audits, toolbox talks, and inductions.
• Investigating incidents and implementing improvements.
• Maintaining accreditations (SafeContractor, ConstructionLine).
• Being the go-to for all health and safety matters on site.

We're working with a well-established, family-run SME contractor delivering refurbishment and fit out projects up to £3m across the public sector, specifically with NHS, emergency services, and universities.

They're seeking a Health and Safety Advisor to take the reins on all things safety, maintaining and improving current systems, driving compliance, and embedding a positive safety culture across the business.

We're looking for:

• NEBOSH General (Construction Cert ideal)
• Previous experience in a construction or fit-out environment (desirable but not essential)
• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively
