Job summary

Prospero Teaching in Ipswich is seeking a Head of Wellbeing & Development to lead the wellbeing strategy and personal development programmes across our Alternative Provision. You will drive student engagement and create supportive pathways for learners with SEMH and behavioural needs.

You will work with teaching staff, families and external agencies, monitor wellbeing outcomes, and contribute to safeguarding and attendance initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading wellbeing initiatives in education or youth services.
  • Ability to design and implement personal development programmes.
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop whole-school wellbeing strategies and interventions.
  • Support students with SEMH and behavioural needs.
  • Design and deliver personal development programmes fostering resilience and life skills.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, families, external agencies and stakeholders.
  • Promote attendance and student wellbeing.
  • Provide guidance on staff wellbeing practices and safeguarding.
  • Monitor and evaluate impact of wellbeing initiatives.
  • Contribute to safeguarding and pastoral care.

Are you passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers and achieve their full potential?

We are seeking an exceptional Head of Wellbeing & Development to join a dedicated Alternative Provision in Ipswich, Suffolk from September. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and compassionate professional who can lead on wellbeing initiatives, personal development programmes, and student engagement strategies for young people who require a nurturing and supportive educational environment.

The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting emotional wellbeing, resilience, attendance, personal growth, and positive outcomes for students with a range of social, emotional, and behavioural needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop whole-school wellbeing strategies and interventions.
  • Support students with social, emotional, mental health and behavioural needs.
  • Design and deliver personal development programmes that foster resilience, confidence and life skills.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, families, external agencies and stakeholders.
  • Promote positive engagement, attendance and student wellbeing.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff regarding wellbeing practices and student support strategies.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of wellbeing and development initiatives.
  • Contribute to safeguarding, pastoral care and the overall student experience.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • Previous experience working within education, alternative provision, youth services, pastoral support, wellbeing, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH needs and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to inspire and motivate young people facing barriers to learning.
  • Experience working with external agencies and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • A proactive, resilient and compassionate approach.
  • A genuine passion for improving outcomes for vulnerable young people.
Essential Requirements
  • Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle
  • Ability to travel as required within the role
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
