Job summary

SuperHiring in Eastbourne is seeking a Learning Support and Behaviour Mentor to join our education team as a Teaching Assistant. You will support pupils aged 5–18 with SEN and SEMH needs, both in class and through personal development activities.

The role involves working in a fast-paced environment, coordinating with therapists and care teams, and traveling to our Ninfield site two afternoons a week. Term-time only, with 39 weeks per year.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with young people in educational or alternative provision settings.
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN or SEMH needs.
  • Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, Education, Childcare, or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Engage and inspire young people in a classroom, creating a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support personal development, confidence, and life skills inside and outside formal education.
  • Assist with classroom delivery and adapt resources to meet individual needs.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, therapists, and residential care teams for holistic support.
  • Contribute to educational administration and record-keeping throughout the day.

Salary: GBP22000 - GBP28000 per annum


Job Title: Teaching Assistant


Location:Primarily based in Eastbourne , with travel to our Ninfield site two afternoons per week (a driving licence is desirable).


Contract Type:Term-time only (39 weeks per year)


Hours:Full-time, Monday to Friday (8am - 3pm)


Salary:Pro-rata based on a full-time equivalent salary of £22,000 – £28,000 per annum (dependent on experience and qualifications)


About the RoleWe are seeking a passionate, adaptable, and resilient Learning Support and Behaviour Mentor to join our specialist education team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to helping young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs achieve their full potential. You’ll play a key role in supporting young people aged 5–18, both within the classroom and through wider personal development work, ensuring they feel valued, understood, and motivated to engage with learning.


Key Responsibilities


  • Engage and inspire young people in a classroom environment, creating a safe, positive, and inclusive atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Manage behaviour effectively and promote emotional regulation using restorative and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Support personal development, confidence, and life skills of young people in and outside of formal education.
  • Assist with classroom delivery and learning activities, adapting resources and approaches to meet individual needs.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and residential care teams to ensure holistic and consistent support for each young person.
  • Contribute to educational administration and record-keeping throughout the day as part of the wider school support team.
  • Respond flexibly to the changing needs of a busy and dynamic learning environment.
  • Travel to our Ninfield site two afternoons a week (transport is required for this part of the role).

About YouYou will be an empathetic, patient, and confident individual with the ability to build trust and rapport with children and young people. You’ll have a proactive attitude and a genuine passion for supporting those with additional needs.Essential:


  • Experience working with young people, ideally in an educational or alternative provision setting.
  • Experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour, SEN, or SEMH needs.
  • A Level 3 qualification in a relevant field (e.g. Health & Social Care, Education, Childcare, or similar).
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong organisational and administrative ability.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Additional training in behaviour management, safeguarding, or trauma-informed practice.
  • Work as part of a committed, multidisciplinary team making a tangible difference to young lives.
