Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Support Worker to join an Alternative Provision in the Poulton area. The role starts on 1st September 2026 on a temporary basis with a view to a permanent contract for the right candidate.

You will mentor students with SEMH needs, support wellbeing, implement positive behaviour strategies, and collaborate with staff and external agencies to track progress and safeguarding requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience: Previous experience working with young people in school, alternative provision, youth work, or residential care.
• Empathy: Calm, patient, and resilient approach with trauma-informed practice.
• Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to build rapport with disengaged or vulnerable students, families and staff.
• Availability: Ready to start on 1st September.

Responsibilities

• Mentoring & Wellbeing: Provide 1-to-1 and small group pastoral support, acting as a trusted mentor to students with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
• Behaviour Management: Implement positive behaviour support strategies, de-escalate situations calmly, and encourage productive engagement in learning.
• Collaboration: Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external agencies to track progress, monitor attendance, and update support plans.
• Safeguarding: Actively promote and safeguard the welfare of all students in line with school policies and statutory guidelines.

• Collaboration: Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external agencies to track student progress, monitor attendance, and update support plans.

• Safeguarding: Actively promote and safeguard the welfare of all students in line with school policies and statutory guidelines.
