About EDClass

EDClass Ltd is a DfE-accredited provider under the Online Education Accreditation Scheme (OEAS), partnering with 250+ schools and Multi-Academy Trusts, alongside 20 local authorities across the UK. Operating from purpose-built digital teaching studios at Aston House in Dinnington, Sheffield we deliver high-impact alternative provision, live lessons, and targeted interventions. Our unique, flexible seat model allows schools to rotate places across multiple learners on part-time timetables—supporting inclusion units, internal isolation, off-site AP, medical needs, EOTAS, and Section 19 duties. Supported by mandatory visual safeguards and rigorous on‑site supervision, we are also actively expanding into global education, Elective Home Education (EHE), adult learning, and private candidate markets.

The Opportunity and Role Purpose

We are seeking an experienced, secondary-trained senior educational leader holding NPQH, NPQSL, or NPQEL to serve as Head of Teaching and Learning (KS1–KS4). With an exclusive focus on pedagogical excellence rather than traditional school administration, you will inspire, coach, and raise standards across an instructional team of 20 on-site teachers and peak-demand online teachers.

Core Strategic Priorities:
  • Platform and Pedagogical Leadership: Coach educators across diverse initial skill levels to deliver outstanding live digital instruction on our next‑generation platform.
  • Timetable and Studio Operations: Take full strategic ownership of scheduling across our specialised live teaching studios, seamlessly balancing room allocations, subject coverage, and flexible seat rotations.
  • Quality Assurance and Performance Analysis: Interrogate instructional quality via live observations, teacher‑talk monitoring, and work scrutiny to eliminate passive lecturing and ensure active retrieval.
  • Curriculum and Core Standards: Lead strategic curriculum delivery across core (English, Maths, Science) and non-core subjects, while driving foundational pupil standards in reading fluency, writing mechanics, presentation and handwriting.
  • Client Impact and Gap Analysis: Liaise directly with MATs and local authorities, conducting forensic reviews to diagnose pupil learning deficits and evidence measurable academic recovery.
  • Strategic Growth: Help steer our curriculum architecture into international markets, EHE cohorts, and adult learning pathways.

Working collaboratively alongside our Head of Teaching Standards and SEND leadership team, you will represent our academic provision in statutory reviews with Ofsted and the DfE. You will take strategic ownership of:

  • Instructional Focus: Ensure teaching and learning remains the sole organisational priority, unencumbered by traditional administrative tasks.
  • Curriculum and Academic Standards: Direct KS2–KS4 curriculum strategy across core (English, Maths, Science) and non-core subjects, maintaining rigorous alignment with UK awarding bodies, GCSE specifications and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strategic Timetabling and Deployment: Oversee whole-school timetabling across our live timetable and live classroom studios, managing room allocations and tech stations to seamlessly balance peak client demand with our flexible seat model.
  • Team Leadership and CPD: Lead, organise and expand the faculty of 20 on-site teachers and peak online tutors; deliver targeted coaching and CPD across diverse initial abilities to ensure deep subject knowledge and eliminate passive lecturing.
  • Performance Analysis and Quality Assurance: Evaluate teaching through live observations, teacher‑talk monitoring, and work scrutiny, holding staff accountable for high instructional standards.
  • Client Reviews and Student Interventions: Conduct forensic data analysis and high-level impact reviews for local authorities, MATs, and partner schools, directing targeted interventions to close learning gaps and accelerate reintegration.
  • Foundational Mechanics: Drive whole-school standards in reading fluency, structured written expression, presentation and handwriting.
  • Thought Leadership and Expansion: Deliver keynote presentations at national conferences and termly EDChampion Days.
  • Statutory Scrutiny and Compliance: Lead curriculum justification during Ofsted and DfE evaluations, ensuring all tracking and progress data remain continuously audit-ready and aligned with KCSIE guidelines.
Person Specification, Qualifications and Accreditation (Essential)
  • National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH), National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL), or National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership (NPQEL).
  • Secondary teaching background and a degree in a relevant academic subject discipline.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) gained in the United Kingdom.
Experience and Track Record (Essential)
  • Minimum of 3 years of substantive senior leadership experience as a Deputy Headteacher or Assistant Headteacher within a secondary school setting.
  • Proven leadership experience managing, coaching and developing staff across a vast range of teaching abilities to achieve consistently outstanding instruction.
  • Demonstrable experience conducting high level impact reviews for local authorities, multi academy trusts or governing bodies to evidence pupil academic progress.

  • Demonstrable track record of public speaking, presenting or leading workshops at educational conferences, professional symposiums, or leadership network forums.
  • Proven leadership experience in timetable management, scheduling staff allocations, and deploying academic resources across live classroom studios or dedicated live timetable suites to meet complex operational demands.
  • Demonstrable track record of evaluating and analysing teaching performance through structured observations, metrics and quality frameworks to drive demonstrable improvements.
  • Proven track record of conducting granular academic data analysis to track progress, diagnose attainment gaps and direct rapid educational interventions.
  • Demonstrable experience monitoring pedagogy and teacher talk to ensure active student learning, verbal retrieval and high engagement.
  • Proven leadership experience making strategic educational decisions, managing curriculum design, whole school assessment frameworks or student behaviour at secondary level.
  • Proven record as a strategic leader across core disciplines (English, Mathematics, Science) or broad non-core subject suites.
  • Proven track record of developing teacher knowledge, enhancing subject expertise and coaching educators within an expanding educational team.
  • Demonstrable experience preparing for, engaging with, or leading regulatory inspection and evaluation meetings with Ofsted or the DfE.
  • Substantive experience working with UK awarding bodies (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, Eduqas WJEC), with an in depth understanding of GCSE specifications and grading standards.

  • Experience leading or contributing to the implementation and adoption of new educational platforms, digital learning systems or hybrid platforms.
  • Direct experience leading within alternative provision, pupil referral units, virtual learning environments or hybrid educational settings.

  • Experience organising and presenting at dedicated institutional conferences, partner days or client review workshops.
  • Experience managing high volume, rapidly scaling teaching teams to handle peak service demand across diverse client provisions.
  • Deep practical knowledge of SEND code of practice, SEMH barriers and trauma informed educational strategies.
Skills and Personal Attributes
  • Digital Innovation: Driven to champion next‑generation learning technology and embed digital tools into daily pedagogy.
  • Instructional Focus: Dedicated to pure teaching and learning, thriving in an environment free from traditional school bureaucracy.
  • Faculty Coaching: High emotional intelligence to mentor, upskill, and elevate educators across a wide spectrum of teaching experience.
