Software Engineering Manager - Central London - Up to £120,000 PA plus equity

DCS Technology in collaboration with our FinTech client are looking for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys tackling complex challenges, and is committed to delivering high-quality, scalable, and secure software solutions.

The role

As Software Engineering Manager, you will oversee all technical aspects of the organisation, with a strong emphasis on hands-on development, performance architecture, and security.

You'll be responsible for guiding the engineering team, driving technical excellence, and ensuring the successful delivery of innovative products.

You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, aligning engineering objectives with broader company goals. Your expertise in Node.js, Amazon Web Services (AWS), MongoDB, React, and React Native will be essential in building and maintaining robust, scalable systems.

How will your day to day look?

Technical oversight

• Oversee the development, deployment, and maintenance of scalable, secure, and high-performing software solutions.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to maintain a competitive technological edge.
• Actively contribute to the codebase, leading by example in applying best practices.
• Design and implement robust architecture to ensure system reliability, scalability, and security.
• Conduct performance tuning and optimization of applications and systems.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations and security standards.

Leadership & management

Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture.

• Define and execute the technical vision, strategy, and roadmap in alignment with business objectives.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless delivery of technical solutions.
• Drive best practices in development processes, including code quality, testing, and continuous integration.
• Provide technical guidance and oversight, ensuring the team adheres to industry standards and best practices.

Agile methodologies

• Lead teams in adopting and implementing agile methodologies (Scrum, XP), promoting continuous improvement.
• Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders.
• Manage project plans, timelines, and budgets effectively using tools such as Jira, Asana, or Monday.com.
• Foster a culture of regular retrospectives and feedback loops to drive efficiency and team growth.

Essential skills & experience

• Proven experience in leading and mentoring engineering teams.
• Strong hands-on in software development with expertise in the following:
• Node.js
• Amazon Web Services (AWS)
• MongoDB
• React and React Native
• Demonstrated ability to design and implement secure, scalable, and high-performance systems.
• Hands-on experience with performance architecture and security best practices.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset.
• Experience collaborating with third-party services and managing vendor relationships.
• Ability to think strategically while executing with precision in a fast-paced environment.

Bonus skills and experience

• AWS Solution Architect certification.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or other container orchestration tools.
• Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., New Relic) for tracking usage and service health.
• Experience with Kafka, Flink, or IoT streaming technologies.
• Background in financial services or other regulated industries.
