About This Role
We are looking for a Director of Software Engineering to lead a team of 100+ engineers. The ideal candidate is results-oriented, able to partner with business leaders, and capable of engaging with top-tier engineers on technical rigor.
You’ll oversee all technologists within our ‘outcome teams’ focused on driving business results. You must be an excellent leader and communicator, able to switch seamlessly from executive-level discussions to deep technical dives and strategic planning. Clear thinking and direction are essential to navigate ambiguity.
Partnering effectively with local business leadership and enterprise stakeholders, you will provide objective assessments of solutions' costs and risks, and define clear paths forward.
What you’ll do
- Lead a team of 100+ technologists including Software Engineers, Quality Engineers, and Architects, operating at scale in a complex, regulated environment.
- Collaborate with Product and Design teams to shape the product roadmap aligned with business goals.
- Identify and develop talent, managing performance to foster growth.
- Ensure effective and timely delivery across outcome teams.
- Manage relationships with enterprise stakeholders, especially in the US, with deep domain expertise.
- Oversee a mix of associates and third-party engineers, ensuring effective oversight.
- Share organizational context to motivate and engage your team around customer and organizational outcomes.
- Stay informed on relevant regulations and enterprise processes.
- Maintain awareness of current technologies and engineering practices.
- Participate in technical design reviews, promoting consistent engineering standards.
- Support career development within your team.
What we’re looking for- Proven experience leading large software engineering teams with high performance.
- Ability to solve complex challenges across people, processes, and technology with curiosity and adaptability.
- Strong critical thinking and counsel skills for business leadership.
- Passion for recruiting and developing engineering talent.
- Results-driven, capable of establishing effective patterns and practices.
- Excellent communication skills adaptable to diverse audiences.
- Experience with AWS and knowledge of cybersecurity trends.
- Ability to work within enterprise policies, balancing short-term and long-term goals.
- Knowledge of UK/US regulatory, consumer lending, and tech landscapes (preferred).
Work location and environmentThis is a permanent role based in London with a hybrid working model: in-office 3 days a week (Tues-Thurs).
