Job summary

The Head of Operations at Rogerstone Meal Solutions (Newport) will provide strategic and operational leadership across a large, 24/7 FMCG facility. Reporting to the Site Director, you will own manufacturing performance, safety, quality, cost and people metrics.

You will shape site strategy, drive continuous improvement, and develop a high‑performing leadership culture, collaborating with engineering, supply chain and commercial teams.

• Collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain, HR, Commercial to deliver priorities.
• Promote accountability, engagement and continuous improvement culture.
• Oversee capacity planning and resource allocation for growth.
• Build strong relationships with customers and senior leaders.

About the Role

As a key member of the Site Leadership Team (SLT), the Head of Operations will provide strategic and operational leadership across one of the UK's largest and most complex food manufacturing facilities. Reporting directly to the Site Director, this role carries full accountability for manufacturing performance, operational excellence, people leadership, customer delivery, safety, quality, and cost.

Leading a large, multi-functional operation operating 24/7, the Head of Operations will play a critical role in shaping site strategy, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring the delivery of business objectives while developing a high-performance culture across the site.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all operational activities across manufacturing, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of customer requirements.
• Provide strategic leadership as a member of the Site Leadership Team, helping shape and execute site and business objectives.
• Drive operational excellence through continuous improvement, Lean methodologies, and performance management.
• Maintain full accountability for Health & Safety, Food Safety, Quality, Service, Cost and People metrics.
• Develop and execute operational plans to improve productivity, efficiency, waste reduction and labour optimisation.
• Lead, coach and develop a large leadership population, creating strong succession pipelines and high-performing teams.
• Work collaboratively with Engineering, Technical, Supply Chain, HR and Commercial functions to deliver site priorities.
• Drive a culture of accountability, engagement and continuous improvement across all operational teams.
• Oversee capacity planning, resource allocation and operational readiness to support future growth.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, stakeholders and senior business leaders.

About You

You are an experienced operational leader with a proven track record of leading large-scale FMCG manufacturing operations. You thrive in fast-paced, complex environments and are passionate about developing people, driving performance and delivering sustainable operational improvements.

You will bring strategic thinking alongside strong hands-on leadership capability and be comfortable influencing at both shop-floor and boardroom level.

Key Requirements

• Significant senior operations leadership experience within FMCG manufacturing, ideally chilled food, ready meals or high-care food production.
• Experience as Head of Operations, Operations Director, General Manager, Site Operations Manager or similar senior leadership role.
• Proven success leading large, complex manufacturing operations with high volumes, significant headcount and multiple production areas.
• Strong commercial awareness with experience balancing customer service, operational performance and financial delivery.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cultural change and continuous improvement programmes.
• Exceptional people leadership skills with experience building and developing high-performing teams.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at executive and customer level.
• Experience operating within highly regulated food manufacturing environments.
