Job summary

NHS Ayrshire & Arran is seeking a Head of Clinical Engineering to lead the Clinical Engineering service within the Diagnostic Services Division at University Hospital Crosshouse. You will oversee safe device management, lifecycle, procurement support and service improvement across acute, community and hosted services.

The role requires a strong engineering background, CPD activity, and experience in managing budgets, staff and complex service delivery within a healthcare setting.

Qualifications

  • Honours degree in Electronic, Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
  • Management training or equivalent experience.
  • Specialist knowledge of medical device management, maintenance and safety testing.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and IEC standards for medical devices.
  • Knowledge of equipment lifecycle management and service delivery processes.
  • Good financial awareness with budget/resource management experience.
  • Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Significant experience in Clinical Engineering or equivalent healthcare environment.
  • Experience supervising staff and managing service delivery in a complex organisation.
  • Experience in medical equipment maintenance, repair and procurement support.
  • Experience contributing to service improvement and new processes or technologies.
  • Experience working with clinical and technical stakeholders.
  • Active CPD engagement in rapidly changing technology.
  • Full UK driving licence is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership of NHS Ayrshire & Arran's Clinical Engineering service.
  • Ensure safe, effective and efficient device management across services.
  • Support lifecycle and procurement for medical devices.
  • Implement governance and compliance with device safety requirements and regulatory guidance.
  • Lead service improvement and innovation in Clinical Engineering.
  • Manage maintenance contracts and external providers for value for money.
