Private equity backed events, subscription and data business is seeking to hire their first lawyer. Reporting into the CFO you will coordinate with internal teams and outside advisors where necessary across Commercial, Operational and Company Secretary activities. You’ll be a strategic partner to the leadership team, shaping the legal function for a dynamic, international business. You will provide legal advice, training and guidance to the wider business.

Responsibilities will include:

• Providing legal guidance on a wide range of legal matters such as contracts, regulatory compliance, litigation, intellectual property, trademark protection and corporate governance.
• Develop and implement a commercial contractual framework that includes a set of template contracts and processes.
• Work with the COO and wider compliance teams to ensure legal compliance requirements.
• Conduct legal training for staff as appropriate and support the use of our internal training platform on mandatory training matters.
• Identify and mitigate legal risks and report up to the Executive team as appropriate.
• Develop and implement legal procedures and policies to ensure company is compliant with applicable laws in the geographies in which they operate.
• Draft, negotiate and review contracts, legal documents and agreements.
• Work with outside counsel as required.
• Determine the correct operating model for CoSec activities and implement.
• Act as DPO

What We’re Looking For:

• A strong educational background in law.
• The right to practice law in the UK.
• In-depth legal expertise, with an understanding of legal principles and practices, alongside specific knowledge of contract law.
• A strong understanding of GDPR.
• Experience of working in a subscription and data business is desirable.
• Leadership and management skills, including an ability to communicate to those who have a strong understanding of the law, and those who don’t.
• Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, demonstrating your ability to assess and understand complex legal issues, and provide strategic advice.
• Strong business acumen to tailor legal advice in line with strategic objectives.
