Job summary

The City of Liverpool College in Liverpool is seeking a Head of Learning Support to lead and evaluate SEND provision across the College, ensuring learners with additional needs are supported to succeed. You will drive inclusive strategies, oversee the Disability Support Team, and align practice with current legislation and OFSTED expectations.

You will manage a team, develop staff CPD, and liaise with external bodies to secure appropriate funding and high-quality support for learners with EHCPs

Qualifications

• Educated to degree level.
• Recognised teaching qualification.
• Significant teaching experience and arranging exam support for learners with additional needs.
• Recognised qualification(s) in learning support.
• Level 7 qualification in Access arrangements.
• Proven experience of managing learning support services.
• Experience of applying for and reviewing Educational Health & Care Plans (EHCP).
• Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding procedures.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to College mission and values in all aspects of College life.
• Assist the Director of Student Support and Wellbeing in managing Disability Support and Learning Support.
• Promote the service across the College and develop a disability-friendly culture.
• Oversee SEND practice and develop related staff.
• Ensure responsibilities align with SEN Code of Practice and funding for learners with additional needs.
• Keep abreast of OFSTED criteria around SEND and inspections.
• Line-manage Disability Support Team Leader, Learning Support Specialists, and Dyslexia Support staff.
• Carry out Exam Access Arrangement Assessments as required.
• Ensure students with EHCPs are assessed and supported.
• Plan and deliver CPD for teaching staff on inclusive pedagogy.
• Keep staff updated on legislation and best practice, including assistive technologies.

Education

Degree level education

Recognised teaching qualification

Significant teaching experience

Learning support qualifications

Level 7 qualification in Access arrangements

Experience managing learning support services

Experience of EHCP processes

Safeguarding knowledge

Liaison with external agencies/local authorities

CPD design/delivery
