Job summary

Hartpury University and Hartpury College is seeking a Head of Engineering and Energy Management to oversee our building services and energy infrastructure across the campus, ensuring safety, efficiency and compliance while supporting sustainability ambitions.

  • Substantial experience with building services, energy systems or infrastructure in a complex environment.

  • Expertise in statutory compliance, health and safety and risk management in estates/engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing strategic and operational management of engineering, mechanical and electrical services.
  • Ensure campus infrastructure is safe, compliant, efficient and resilient; support business continuity and future developments.
  • Oversee asset management and lifecycle investment programmes for building services.
  • Provide technical expertise and evidence-based advice on engineering, energy and infrastructure matters.
  • Develop and deliver capital projects, including renewable energy and low-carbon technologies.
  • Manage utilities, energy performance and consumption, identifying efficiency improvements and decarbonisation opportunities.
  • Participate in an on-call rota to support urgent engineering and infrastructure matters outside normal hours.

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of engineering and energy management across Hartpury's diverse campus. As Head of Engineering and Energy Management, you will oversee our mechanical, electrical and building-services infrastructure, helping to ensure that the campus remains safe, efficient, compliant and resilient. You will also play a central role in delivering our sustainability and carbon-reduction ambitions, including the development of renewable-energy and low-carbon projects. Working collaboratively with colleagues across Estates, Health and Safety, Sustainability, Finance and academic departments, you will provide technical expertise and trusted advice to help create a safe, sustainable and high-performing environment for students, staff and visitors. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the strategic and operational management of engineering, mechanical and electrical services across a diverse educational estate
  • Ensure campus infrastructure remains safe, efficient, statutory compliant and resilient, supporting both day to day operations, business continuity and future developments.
  • Oversee asset management, lifecycle investment programmes to improve the performance and longevity of building services systems
  • Provide expert technical expertise and clear, evidence based advice on engineering, energy and infrastructure matters
  • Developing and delivering of capital projects, including renewable energy and low carbon technologies
  • Manage utilities, energy performance and consumption, identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements, decarbonisation and delivery of cost savings
  • The role will also participate in an on-call rota to support the response to urgent engineering and infrastructure matters outside normal working hours.

You will bring substantial experience of building services, energy systems or infrastructure within a complex operational environment. You will be comfortable combining technical knowledge with effective communication and collaborative working.
